COP29 in Baku, investing for a sustainable future: focus on financing and Africa's key role
COP29, which opened on Monday November 11 in Baku, Azerbaijan, runs until November 22. Heads of government, business leaders and members of civil society are meeting to find concrete solutions to the problem of global warming. Above all, it's an opportunity to accelerate action to reduce our negative impact on the Earth. With the central theme of “Investing in a livable planet for all”, this year's COP29 focuses primarily on financing. Indeed, it is necessary and crucial to raise a number of funds so that countries can significantly reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and protect lives and livelihoods.
Africa and the Congo Basin, in particular, play a very important role in preserving biodiversity: they are also the planet's leading carbon sink. That's why the President took the floor to defend the continent's position and reiterate the demand for financing linked to these vital issues.
