Denis Sassou N'Guesso and Félix Tshisekedi Discuss Border Security
Denis Sassou N'Guesso and his counterpart from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, met on Saturday, October 3, 2026, in Brazzaville to discuss border security, particularly the recent incidents in Makotimpoko.
While the two heads of state were addressing the media, Mr. Tshisekedi expressed his deep regret regarding these incidents and announced his country’s intention to compensate the victims’ families. Indeed, as a reminder, on August 27, an exchange of fire took place between soldiers from the Navy and the Gendarmerie and soldiers from the DRC on the Congo River, near Makoloko Island, located about 40 kilometers from the town of Makotimpoko, resulting in several casualties and missing persons.
The two heads of state reaffirmed to the press their commitment to dialogue and good-neighborly relations between the two Congos.
