CEMAC holds extraordinary session in Brazzaville

President Denis Sassou N'Guesso opened the extraordinary summit of heads of state of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) on Thursday, alongside his counterparts from the Central African Republic, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

The summit is dedicated to assessing the economic and financial situation that the sub-region could face in the first quarter of 2026. "This summit gives us the opportunity to take a clear and responsible stock of the implementation of the decisions we took at our previous extraordinary sessions in 2016, 2021 and 2024. It is therefore incumbent upon us to reaffirm our determination to resolutely implement the recommendations that will emerge from the present proceedings," said the Congolese Head of State in Brazzaville.

In his capacity as current President of CEMAC, he called on international financial institutions and bilateral partners to make a more effective commitment and provide more effective support for the development efforts of the community area.

According to him, the economies of CEMAC member countries are experiencing positive growth, inflation is beginning to decline significantly and is attempting to return below the community threshold.

However, while these developments are beneficial and encouraging, they cannot be disrupted by the instability of the global context, hence the importance of this meeting in Brazzaville.
