AU Summit: Charter for inter-Libyan National Reconciliation approved in Addis Ababa
The Charter for Libyan National Reconciliation was formally adopted on 14 February 2025 in Addis Ababa, on the sidelines of the Pan-African Organization Summit.
The ultimate objective of the African mediation and the Addis Ababa Charter process remains to organize a national reconciliation conference in Libya, which will lay the foundations for a political solution and relaunch the electoral process. This was the essence of what President Denis Sassou-N'Guesso said in his address to participants on 14 February: “Our most fervent wish is that the inter-Libyan reconciliation we celebrate today here in Addis Ababa will help to pave the way for the establishment of a single government, of unique sovereign institutions.” This reconciliation must “accelerate the establishment of a unitary state exercising full and independent sovereignty over all Libyan territory”.
